My name is Stacey, I am a 46 yr old woman recently released from prison. I have been out of prison for approx. One year and I am trying to find out what grants and or programs are available to me for re entry, education, housing etc. I currently reside in Tucson, Az. I currently receive food stamps and medcal, if that makes a difference as
to. what is available. I would very much like to continue my education, maybe attend a trade school. I curently don’t even have a GED but did take preliminary tests and tested very high and was told I would pass it wth no problem. I would be very grateful for any and all information you may have for me.

    Thank you.

There are non profit organizations that are set up for the schooling you are looking for. Google search: Grants for reintergration of ex offenders. You should find lots of funding for your schooling. Good luck!!!

they have 3/4 houses and half way houses, etc but you have to be in the process of transitioning into it leaving prison or jail to get in you have to be accepted. You may have to find a friend or family member to lay your head at because the only other alternative is going to be the shelter. WE NEED HELP OUT HERE!!! Good luck keep your head up!

give your local non emergency number a call and tell them that you are trying to start a tree business and would like to obtain your business license for it. They will point you in the right direction. If you have any problems give them a call back and they will be more than helpful

We are all in the same boat trying to get ourselves together and help seems limitless. You can get funding for schooling for a trade or degree, but that still doesn’t secure you employment. An individual could have knowledge of and be business minded and still will not get funded for a business. It’s clear that’s that the SBA and government do not give grants to ex offenders. Another avenue that really needs to be paved is, the possibility of felon friendly jobs to be generated along with the schooling and other programs that are direct help to put ex offenders to work making a salary decent enough to provide for their families and possibly make an avenue for themselves if there isn’t going to be a grant present for them. Most of these non-profits make like four times the money before a quarter of it is given out and that still isn’t providing “jobs”. Every year more than 650,000 ex offenders are released. So in 10 years that could be more than 6.5 million jobs filled.

I am a student at Gateway Technical College, here in Racine,WI who is pursuing an education in Business Management. I am also working on a non profit organization at the same time, I just need funding to watch it grow from the ground up, as a solid foundation. I caught a felon back when I was only 22 years of age for Poss. of T.H.C. with the intent to deliver, I served jail time and I also received three years of felony probation. I am on a new path in life and am headed in the right direction, where I was before the drug era ever came about. I have been in connection with the labor union, working under Keith Kemper(b.a.) but, through the company Baumgart Mechanical also under, Ryan Turner. When hired, Keith Kemper told me that the particular company was only expecting to hire a Caucasian male for the job so, I should be grateful. While working there, I experienced hell on a whole ‘ nother level. From people telling me I worked Egyptian style to the boss coming around the corner as he zipped his pants up, asking me to go to pick up some old cardboard from the direction he had just come from and when I got to the area, I did just that but, the cardboard was wet, didn’t think nothing of it as I began to pick it up to take it out to a dumpster ,when my hand got wet and the substance was warm yet, I smelled my hand and that racist man had urinated on the cardboard ,laughing as he turned the corner ,while he zipped his pants and at that point in time I had noticed why he had such a smirk. I have also encountered a sheriff of Kenosha Co. sniff my ex fiancé’s panties as he searched our car as his partner watched and only shrugged his shoulders…and at the time there were two white girls with us, one got away with not going to jail and having a warrant ,the other got away with having paraphernalia from T.H.C. in her purse. And this is the society in which we reside. It is other things that I can give enlightenment on but, I am just giving you all and overview of the way things are not yet equal in modern civilization and I thought we as people had overcome years ago. The truth is, I just got back from WaterValley,MS and come to find out, one of my younger cousins had just recently been a worker in a cotton field, unbelievable what it still going on but, no one acknowledges these facts of life. I am in the business of gaining full control of my own life and obtaining a pardon, on behalf of, what I am beginning to achieve. And sadly someone has to do it. I am not only a minority, I am also a lesbian, a women(with less opportunity), a felon, and the truth of the matter is, My mother and I was abandoned by my Caucasian father, who Child Support never tested him even when my mother acknoewlegded him as my father in courts but, even though he showed up and my mother didn’t for personal reasoning he was still not tested and he has the nerves to have an occupation for the state of wi , but,the way in which they do every man in my family who are black without a tad of guilt that they were the donors, I can not picture the justice in this system either, the way they( at child support) had emailed me telling I was not in the database for WI, when I clearly was born here and possess a birth certificate. I started working very young but, due to the growth of temp agencies, and major lay-offs, I was never hired into a company nor worked long enough to even go to the dentist. Last Feb 2012, I suffered from drug induced bi polar with psychosis and was admitted to a hospital for around 30 days, well two weeks the first time I was let go, the doctor had given me something that completely changed my life(as I lost my fiancé over the situation for my bizarre behaviors during an episode I encountered from taking the med Geodon) but, I have been baptized don’t use drugs any longer and I have also made the Dean’s List last semester, here in school. For that I should receive a standing ovation. Life is much more precious to me now and I can’t begin to explain my appreciation of life and all the goodness it can bring to you when you set your mind on it taking place before you eyes. I am simply asking for the opportunity to better myself on my quest to travel the world promoting peace and giving people the opportunities they have never imagined could take place in the life of a minority ,felon, woman, the mis-treatment of elders, the enslaving of inmates, who also need a chance to live their lives under a second chance program I am also putting together with efforts to network with the D.O.C. and sign a contract for inmates to get out on gps monitored ankle bracelets, to be taught trades in construction, networking with the First Choice Pre-Apprentice Program, and rebuilding homes in poverty stricken towns and lower class communities, as the women will direct the children on mannerism and things that will prepare them for the futures ahead of them. This is possible to work anything to some may seem almost impossible to others. But, I don’t know (no one knows) that tomorrow is promised. So, we will also be teaching respect and knowledge in the things, that people in their 70’s and up had to encounter while growing up and how they have paved the way for us to become well-educated and become successful individuals. Not initiating hate in our people, just awareness that we have talent and multiple abilities. Thank you for listening. L.Martin

hello my name is John Lawrence and before making three trips to prison to figure out that my life in general was like a lost soul and lost alot of family and all my so called friends and most importantly the respect and visitation of children none of which ever crossed my mind over almost ten years. Since being out since 2010 I have done everything under god’s way with his word and also absolutely nothing illegal to be a better person for myself and all those still around me. As if currently losing both mother and father also my only grandmother all to simply be told that it is all fault of my own I will never make it to continue selling drugs and using because it’s all I would ever be worth this by employers, judges, and yes by supposed men and women of the lord.I was catholic and after being shunned out of three churches I returned to my grandmother’s church to be shunned also. There is one thing in the employment world and that is to run a restaurant,I was a general manager of the same truck stop for 8 great years before going into prison always being hired back upon released my boss was murdered well that also was lost but the one thing he taught me was every complete part of running his business with him and for him.He would come in once every 2 months and pick up his profits which were never less than 25 to 30.000 plus every time I ran everything besides the accounting is the only paid out expense.I do not want a gift only the chance to open run my own restaurant a backer or partner that will make plenty of money in return for their children and grandchildren to come. How do I know its all possible for me to do so well after 8 years of running a business buying equipment and all things needed for jimmy’s business that he never entered for more than a weekend every two months I personally sent his widow in Greece over an estimated 5 million dollars along with my pay that was over 1600,00 a week and I never embezzeled a dime I went to prson all three times for petty posession of marajuana never even a full joint at that but I deserved all I received it no less but is that not enough reason to start fresh or continue to have a life long condemnation for my 1 year old daughter and other children to never have or get any kind of support or see rehabilitation as I have been trying and will continue but the fact is that I can’t even find decent employment to support myself or anybody. My ways will never return I have lost enough with others I wish to employ have a legacy for my children and to keep employment for people like me open always.Thank you for your time and attention if only to read this God bless everyone he is real just believe.

I have recently found this page in hope that I can get some of the same answers to some of the question that I have just read. As a persons recently incarcerated (did 21 years) I feel we may have to do our own non-profit with the mind set that we all ( 2 million) would donate to it what ever we can in the area that you are in and then maybe a collective one for bigger projects. I say this because as you know or not there are more than 2 million of us either out on parole or on probation image if we where to donate just one dollar to a fund both on a local level or a national one the power we could wield as a collective would be more as an individual. This among many other reasons is why we are not allowed to have contact with each other. We must first realize that we are human beings not ex anything change what people call you. Then educate your self both on the inside and once your released. find out what you love and pursue it with a vengeance and let nothing or anyone get in your way. After that reach back and pull someone else up that we leave behind those walls we can break the cycle if we care to. If you have ideals please contact me at my email address I will be starting page on the latters for us soon. mean while each one teach one take baby steps then run but have a reason to run. Peace.

48 yr old male, with severe mental disabilities. released from prison after doing total of 29 yrs in three different states. I was released with no help at all, $50 and a bus ticket. no release program, no reentry preparation. I have been out for less than two years. no one will hire me, not even fast food. mostly because of my disability. I am now married with a 9mth old baby, with no way to pay anything. my only work is going to stand in front of Wal-Mart with a sign begging for work. we are about to be evicted, no church, no shelter, no programs will help us. when we become homeless they will most likely take our child. I am begging again for immediate help. had I known about the immediate help upon my release I would’ve done it. but now the help is gone. I fought hard for my freedom and my sanity now I’m fighting for my wife and my child’s life because they count on me. my wife also has severe disabilities, so her working is not an option. Please any advice or help to keep us together, safe and with shelter would be sincerely appreciated. But time is seriously an issue. I am begging as a father, husband and as a man who knows the wrongs I’ve done in life. I am trying very hard not to slip back into the pit I came from. Please understand anybody who has honest love for their family will make sure the best they can that the family’s taken care of. I want to do it in the right way, but it seems no one, not even the mayor of our town, Hobbs, NM, who I have talked to personally will help.

Both myself and my wife have applied and are waiting for a decision on social security.

If you have any advice I can be contacted by email.
